ARE YOU A BODEIST? NIKE STROKES BODE EGO ON WEB We all feel a little dirty. March 4th, 2006 Anyone who watched the winter Olympics in Torin, Italy, (Notice I didn't say Torino) was met with a constant barrage of Nike commercials declaring the purifying philosophies of Mr. Bode Miller and asking the question "Are you a Bodeist?" For those of you that do not know who Bode Miller is, he is one of the top alpine skiers in the world and definitely one of the best this country has to offer. That being said, if we allow this man to represent the United States in another Olympic event I will simply pull my hair out and go running through the street. It isn't that he failed to medal. That in two major events he failed to finish or was disqualified. It isn't that he ducked the press at every turn; I would have done the same thing. It's that he didn't even try and most certainly from his interviews, didn't even care. After his events he repeatedly spews his slacker philosophy about just having fun and enjoying life and how he isn't there to win. Well I'm sorry Bode, but that's all crape and you are in serious need off a life changing attitude adjustment. It may not be about winning, but it is about giving us your best. That's right, I said us. The people of the United States of America, who deserve better than some socialist, slacker, brat wearing our colors. I |
would like to know who it was that worked hard his entire life to make the Olympic Team, who it was that was filled with such pride for his nation and motivation to make us proud that didn't make the team because you were on it. You see Bode, the Olympics are the one place in sports where you don't just ski for yourself and your own ego, it's where you ski for an entire nation. Maybe you and Shanni Davis, the speed skater that cost the Men's Speed skating relay a Gold medal because he was there to do his own thing, can hang out and love each other. But what am I thinking, that would require that you actually care for someone other than yourselves. For those of you that haven't seen the JOINBODE.COM champagne put on be Nike, I suggest you check it out before Nike realizes that bad press while still being press is not good for business and shuts it down. -Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor |
