Obama Dances Around Abortion.
by Richard Okelberry
|
|
August 19th, 2008 - During a unique Presidential debate at the Saddleback Church in California both Obama and McCain were asked, "at what point does a baby get human rights?" While McCain's answer was short and simple, "at conception," Obama found himself in the same position as the far majority of Democratic candidates, dancing around the issue. The reason for this is simple, while Republicans may be beholden to the religious right... more |
Stewart Wants More Iraq Blood on TV
by Richard Okelberry
|
June 19th, 2008 - In a recent History Channel documentary Tom Brokaw took the opportunity to compare the Vietnam War to the current conflict in Iraq. The documentary titled "1968 with Tom Brokaw" calls on Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers television series and John Stewart of Comedy Central's The Daily Show to talk about what's different from then to now. Both basically blame the media for not showing what's really going on in Iraq and imply that if people were to see the Iraq War portrayed on TV the way Vietnam was, people would be more incensed to oppose it. Unfortunately for Tom, Tommy and John, there are truly few comparisons that can be
|
drawn between Vietnam and the Iraq War to support their cause. First, Vietnam was an ugly war fought against and well supplied and organized army in the jungles. The Iraq War has become an exercise in urban combat... more |
Cell Phones Kill Babies!
the Political Free Market.
by Richard Okelberry
|
June 17th, 2008 - While doing my traditional early morning blog stomp across the net, I noticed a slightly different online ad. Unlike its flashing, buzzing and moving competitors' this static ad simply said "Dick Cheney says: Thanks!" Below a photo of the Vice President the ad proceeded to ask, "Did your phone help elect Bush/Cheney? AT&T's PAC did." I was intrigued to say the least. The ad is sponsored by a cell phone company called CREDO Mobile. Considering that this is the first advertising campaign I have ever seen that uses hatred for Bush to sell a product, I had to... more |

Huckabee Offends Mormons
by saying nothing.
|
December 5th, 2007 - On KVNU, 610AM here in Logan, Utah last night I was privileged to hear a discussion about Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his planned "Mormon" speech. The broadcast titled "For the People," hosted by Ryan Yonk and Tom Grover paid special attention to the way that Romney's opponent Mike Huckabee responded to questions posed to him about Mitt Romney's Mormon faith. As a non-Mormon living here in Utah, I am hoping that by writing this I can help my Mormon friends and neighbors along with both program hosts who are each professed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, understand why many Evangelical Christians might have reservations about electing a Mormon as president. I certainly don't want to offend or defend anyone's particular beliefs but would like try to give a broader understanding of this subject by injecting... more |
Hagel Threatens Political Impeachment
|
March 28th, 2007 - On ABC's This Week, Senator Hagel outwardly threatened the President of the United States with impeachment if he didn't bend to the political will of Congress and for suggesting that only the President has the authority to command the military. While doing so he suggested that the President's advisors "go back and reread the Constitution." Perhaps Senator Hagel should take his own advice and reread Article II section 4 which states: The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and... more |
Iraq War Historical Comparison
by Richard Okelberry
|
March 20th 2007 - Ask most people around the country how they feel the war in Iraq is going and most will tell you it's a disaster. In fact, a recent CNN opinion poll says that 63% of the US adult population opposes the war in Iraq. Likely, most have formed their opinion of how successful the war in Iraq has been by watching their evening news where nightly the number of US troop casualties is updated and huge media events are put on when the totals pass each 1000 mark. What we don't seem to ever get from national media is a comparison to past conflicts as a measuring perspective. In reality, the war in Iraq has been one of the most successful military campaigns in US history. When averaging the number of US combat casualties... more |
Voters Should use Religion to Decide.

|
March 1st, 2007 - Last week I was traveling through the Rocky Mountains, along the I-80 corridor, to visit family in Logan, Utah. We had just left a snow storm in Wyoming when I was trying to loosen the grip on my steering wheel by scanning through radio stations. News-Talk radio is always my favorite and I wasn't disappointed when I came across KSL radio (102.7 fm) broadcasting a morning call-in program out of Salt Lake City. The body of the callers where in outrage that Presidential... more |
How to WIN in Iraq!
by Richard Okelberry
|
February 12th, 2007 -- When I look at all the political wrangling surrounding the war in Iraq I notice two things. The conservative Republicans don't seem willing to do what is really necessary to win and the liberal Democrats don't seem to want to win at all. I say this as most Republicans support President Bush's plan for integrating a surge of troops into Baghdad neighborhoods and Democrats are talking about passing a law that complains about the plan but does nothing to stop it. From the beginning neither camp has been willing to do what is necessary to not only win this but any war. I say this because I believe our ability to wage war and defeat... more |
Hagel's New Vietnam
by Richard Okelberry
|
January 23rd, 2007 - It's ironic that Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, who was twice wounded in Vietnam, has become the very type of political entity that caused our defeat in that terrible war. As a young man serving in the military, I am sure that he, more than once, complained to his comrades about the politicians continually hamstringing the military and not giving them the resources to simply wipe out the enemy. Perhaps instead Hagel believes that America was not capable of defeating North Vietnam. Nonetheless, it is obvious that Hagel doesn't believe us capable of winning the war in Iraq. Liberal pundits have argued since the outset of this war that it would become another Vietnam "Quagmire." For once I agree with the liberals, though most likely not for the same reasons. Yes things appear on the nightly news... more |

Kansas Abortionist May Find Himself Behind Bars.
by Richard Okelberry
|
January 3rd, 2007 - On March 24, 2006, I wrote an essay entitled "Are Abortion Clinics Destroying Evidence?" In this essay I argued that law enforcement should seize as evidence every aborted fetus from underage patients of abortion clinics. It was obvious to me at the time that the very fact that an underage girl was pregnant was evidence of either Statutory Rape or First Degree Unlawful Sexual Assault of a Minor Child. After penning my essay, I sent copies to both the Nebraska State Attorney General Jon Bruning and Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman. Both not only refused to respond to my concerns about rapists and child molesters using abortion clinics to cover up their crimes, but both have also failed to take any steps to seize records and evidence associated with such crimes. Fortunately, the Kansas Attorney General Phil Kline is not so timid. He has successfully subpoenaed the records of a notorious abortion |
AT&T Wireless Monster on the Loose.
|
Defraud Customers, Make More MONEY! December 7th, 2006 - If you are looking for a wireless cell phone provider you may want to reconsider purchasing services from AT&T Wireless. It appears that AT&T wireless has no way of knowing which of its customers are under a two year contract and which aren't. I was one of those customers that wasn't under contract but was still charged $350 in early termination fees when I finally discontinued my service in December of 2004. Ever since then, any attempt to correct the issue with AT&T has been met with complete stonewalling on the part of their service department. Even after... more |
Republicans Lose, Conservatives Win
Liberals Lose, Democrats Win
|
Democratic Leaders in for a big shock. November 11th, 2006 - by Richard Okelberry On November 7th, 2006, an amazing thing happened at the polls. While Democrat leaders like the New Speaker of the House Nancy Peloci sighted the Democrat sweep of both the House and the Senate as momentous occasion and evidence of a turn in sentiment by the people against the war in Iraq, what really happened was something quite different. While conservatives lost some ground over the last many years within the Republican Party, they made a huge headway into the Democratic Party. You see the basic concepts of conservative and liberal ideals are not exclusively tied to a single party. This is why we have what are termed |
conservative or 'Reagan' Democrats and liberal Republicans within each of the respective parties. I believe that 2006 will eventually be seen as the year that the entire country moved a little more to the right. Democrats, desperate to regain control in the House and the Senate were forced to promote and nominate more conservative candidates. Extreme liberals like Jack Kennedy and Nancy Peloci can only find... more |

USA Today Fails to Deny Allegations in NSA Story even after one whole work day! May 18th, 2006, Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor The plot thickens around USA Today's story on the NSA searching phone records. I imagine that it was no problem for Bell South's public relations people to instantly call up and get together with every upper and midlevel executive to find out if they...more |

AT&T, Bell South Save Tax $ in NSA Scandal Lawyers want $200 million. May 17th, 2006. by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor I am really at a loss for words about the controversy surrounding AT&T and Bell South turning over phone records to the NSA. Maybe, what really has everyone so upset is the fact that the government wasn't paying for it the way everyone else does....more |

Windfall Tax Will Make Gas Prices Soar. Traders cause higher prices. April 26th, 2006. by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor I know. Everyone is upset about higher gas prices. Of course the politicians vow to find out who is responsible and punish them. Isn't it strange how they kind of stop there, short of actually doing something about it. Ironically, the national Democrats seem to be gearing up for one of the largest battles against high gas prices, with vows of investigations, hearings and public testimony. It's kind of funny...more |

30% Tax Cap May Be Best Reform March 19th, 2006. by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor With the promise of tax reform on the lips of so many politicians and advent of so many new tax theories I felt that I needed to throw in my two cents. Many of you are mulling over the values of a simplified tax system like a Flat Tax of National Sales Tax. Pres. BUSH Calls for a "Majority White" New Orleans March 12th, 2006. by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor Some years ago, while serving in the Navy, I had a discussion with a black friend of mine about the prevalence of racism in our modern society. He argued that all whites were "closet" racists. I responded with the belief that his very statement was racist because it made blanket statements about white people based entirely on their race. My response was met...more |
