LDS Immigration Fight on KSL Utah.
|
by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor, February 16th, 2008 A surprising discussion took place February 15th on KSL News, channel 5, a Utah television station that is incidentally owned by the largest Mormon denomination, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS.) The discussion centered around proposed legislation that would take away in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants. While the discussion seemed to start innocent enough it quickly degraded into a debate between Republican State Representative Glen Donnelson, the sponsor of the bill and Michael Clara of the Utah Republican Hispanic Assembly over whether or not recent comments by LDS church officials calling for compassion for illegal... more

Guidance On Illegal Immigration Needed From Lutheran Leaders. How Should Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Congregations Deal With Illegal Immigration? by Richard Okelberry, managing Editor, Sept. 13th, 2007 As a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), I am seeking public clarification of the opinions expressed by Synod President Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick, as published June 2, 2006, in a statement entitled, "A Statement Regarding Immigration Concerns." While I certainly agree with the assessment that we should have "loving concern for the stranger in our midst," the statement fails to give clear direction to LCMS members on how to deal with the outward unrepentant sin associated with illegal immigration. I fear that |
Synod President Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick (superimposed) without clarification, congregations may misunderstand President Kieschnick's opinions and make the mistake of justifying and upholding immigrants in their sin, instead of encouraging illegal immigrants to repent of their transgressions and seek forgiveness. Rather than providing our congregations with... more |
Was Jesus a Communist?
by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor
|
October 30th, 2006 - Many over the years have tried to argue that the Biblical New Testament is full of references to communism. Mr. Austin Cline in an essay titled "What Does the Bible Say About Communism & Socialism?" makes the argument that Christians who are opposed to communism are hypocritical representations of their religion. True communists the world over believe that individuals should hold few if any personal possessions and that the bulk of a societies resources should be divided up as needed between everyone. Mr. Cline uses the following Biblical quotes to support his presumption that Christians should embrace this economic philosophy... more |
THE CASE OF THE HALF-WINGED TOAD
Evolution may be stranger than once imagined!
by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor
|
October 30th, 2006 - The controversial division between the concepts of creation verses Darwin's theory of evolution began the moment that Mr. Darwin penned his Theory. This concept which includes the process of natural selection is considered by most of the scientific community to be the most eloquent description ever devised for the Natural World. While even most Christians have trouble denying Darwin's basic ideas we must also recognize that there are serious short comings in his theory. Simple thought experiments can show us how Darwin's version of evolution fails to tread water against the rising tide of "Intelligent Design." This can be best illustrated with an argument that I've put together called "The Case of the Half Winged Toad." More accurately I should say that this is the case of the lack of a half winged toad. You see evolutionists will tell you that all life on earth was spawned from a soup of proteins that coagulated into single celled organisms. These organisms gradually evolved through a complex system of cosmic ray bombardment and environmental effect. In short... more |

Should Illegal Immigrants Face Excommunication? by Richard Okelberry, managing Editor, March 23, 2006 Mass Illegal Immigrant Excommunication Consider this as a new take on the Illegal Immigration debate. The far majority of illegal immigrants that enter the US from Mexico are also devout Catholics. I wonder however, how often parish priests hearing confession from their parishioners are called upon to forgive the sins of an illegal immigrant confessing their transgressions that go along with their illegal entry. Now I really don't want anyone to think that I am picking on Catholics again....more |

Gospel of Judas National Geographic coming soon to the supermarket check out line. by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor, April 11th, 2006 The other night, I saw the National Geographic special, "The Gospel of Judas," a program where NGS brought a group of scientists together to prove that the Bible being both incomplete and inaccurate has deceived millions of Christians around the world. Oh, and I don't want to forget that the Weekly World News...more |

How much will forgiveness bring? by Richard Okelberry, Managing Editor, March 23, 2006 Most Catholics will tell you when asked about Lent that there are three pillars or traditional disciplines of Lent: fasting, almsgiving and prayer. The earliest practices of Lent lasted for only 2 or 3 days where individuals due to be baptized would fast to purify their bodies of sin. Later the observance of Lent would be expanded to 40 day in consideration of the importance of a 40 day period.... more |

CAPITOL PUNISHMENT A SATANIC RITUAL March 4th, 2006 I know that most of you reading this want to know why I would put an article about capitol punishment in the religion section. The answer is quite simple. I want to talk about the moral and religious consequences of capitol punishment. I'm sure that I could go on and on about how it's wrong if we execute even one innocent person and I would just get the response that sometimes the innocent die to protect society. Or I could try and debate whether it is cruel or in human, but I unfortunately believe that it is intended to be so. Maybe you've heard that Amnesty International gives us a poor human rights rating because of it, but who cares what they think anyway. Those of you that hate seeing your...more |
